Keep it Fresh: My French Bulldog Feeding Formula

By Kelley Marian

I always thought of my Frenchie like a little foreign race car.

When everything was running smoothly, she was incredible. Healthy skin, bright eyes, endless personality. She was perfection. But she also needed premium fuel.

It took a lot to keep her feeling her best. We did acupuncture, chiropractic care, filtered water... and honestly, her diet was probably cleaner than mine most days.

If we stayed on top of all of it, she thrived.

If we didn't? The warning lights came on pretty quick. Skin flare-ups, tear stains, bad breath, gas that could clear a room. It made me realize pretty quickly that my Frenchie wasn’t a dog I could get away with feeding on autopilot.

Here's the feeding formula I used to keep her running at her best.

Start with Fresh Food

Raw feeding is a great fit for many French Bulldogs because they're so prone to inflammation and yeast issues. Keeping carbs low while focusing on high-quality animal protein can make a huge difference to their overall vitality.

If your Frenchie is currently on a kibble diet, mixing in a scoop of one of our Freeze Dried  or Frozen Raw Recipes is a great place to start.

Add Daily Greens

One thing I would definitely add every day is a scoop of one of our Green Juju Vegetable Blends.

They're low glycemic while providing antioxidants, phytonutrients, and gentle whole-food detox support. But one of my favorite benefits is the promise of good poops.

All that natural fiber helps keep digestion moving, supports healthy anal glands, and encourages regular stools. If you have a Frenchie, you probably know a good poop is worth celebrating!

Mix in Whole-Food Probiotics

The last major piece of my Frenchie feeding formula is rotating our Leaf, Soil, and Farm Whole Food Probiotics.

Most French Bulldogs spend more time on the couch than out in nature, and these blends help bring a little of the outdoors back by introducing beneficial microorganisms they'd naturally encounter in digging in the dirt.

That Deserves a Treat

You know how a parent will top their kids yogurt with oat flakes and call it ‘sprinkles’? That’s my secret when it comes to treating a Frenchie.

I like keeping things simple by choosing one of our Single-Ingredient Protein Trainers or Freeze-Dried Whole Food Bites that matches the primary protein my dog is already eating. It’s my little trick to keep the diet consistent while still making training fun and rewarding.

Keep it Fresh

I've always believed French Bulldogs need some of the most natural, whole nutrition we can give them. Humans have done an awful lot of tinkering to create these adorable little dogs, so I like to let nature do some of the heavy lifting when it comes to their bowl.

If I were building a Frenchie's bowl from the ground up, this is what I’d do:

Start with fresh food: Freeze Dried Raw Diet or Frozen Raw Diet

Then add daily greens: Green Juju Vegetable Blends

Mix in whole-food probiotics: Leaf, Soil, and Farm Whole Food Probiotics

And that deserves a treat!  Single-Ingredient Protein Trainers or Freeze-Dried Whole Food Bites

You don't have to change everything overnight. Start with one piece, see how your dog responds, and build from there.

Think of it as regular maintenance for your favorite little sports car.
