More Than a Meal: How We Feed Our Cats Every Day

If you've followed Two Crazy Cat Ladies for any length of time, you probably know that we love talking about cat food.

Not because we think there's only one right way to feed cats, but because we've seen firsthand how profoundly nutrition can impact their health, behavior, and quality of life.

Like so many cat parents, our journey has evolved over the years. We started with kibble because that's all we knew to feed. Then we learned more. We switched to higher-quality kibble, then wet food, and eventually discovered the incredible benefits of feeding a balanced, species-appropriate fresh/raw diet.

Today, every meal in our home is built around one simple philosophy: nourish the whole cat.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

Our cats eat three times per day, morning, afternoon and evening. Breakfast and dinner are balanced fresh/raw meals from trusted manufacturers. Lunch is usually a little lighter, often a high-quality wet food or another small raw meal depending on what everyone seems to be in the mood for that day.

If you've ever lived with cats, you know they have very strong opinions. And ours have made one thing abundantly clear...

Every meal needs toppers.

At this point, we're honestly not sure whether they've trained us or we've trained them to top every single plate.

Why We Love Food Toppers

Food toppers have become one of our favorite ways to personalize meals.

First, they make mealtime exciting. Our cats come running because they know something delicious is about to appear on top of their food.

Second, and even more importantly, they allow us to add nourishing whole-food ingredients that complement the rest of the meal.

Because fresh/raw cat food diets are naturally meat-focused, we like incorporating small amounts of beneficial plant ingredients for additional fiber and phytonutrients.

That's where Green Juju has become part of our everyday routine.

We sprinkle Green Juju Whole Food Bites over almost every meal, and our cats absolutely insist on it.

The funniest part?

You'd probably assume their freeze-dried salmon would be everyone's favorite.

Not in our house.

Our cats are completely obsessed with the Beef, Bison, and Rabbit Whole Food Bites, even though several of them would turn their noses up at fresh beef or bison if we served it by itself. Cats are wonderfully mysterious that way.

Our most particular eater, Zorro, is the biggest fan. He's our "raw purist" and isn't interested in canned food at all, yet he'll patiently wait while we crumble his Green Juju topper over every meal.

Trust Matters

When we recommend products, or choose products for our own cats, the most important thing to us is transparency and trust.

We want to know where ingredients come from.

We want companies that care as much about what's inside the bag as we care about what goes into our cats' meals.

That's one of the reasons we've been such longtime fans of Green Juju. Knowing the company values whole foods, quality sourcing, and transparency gives us peace of mind. When you're feeding family members you love this deeply, that kind of confidence matters.

Our Favorite Part Isn't Actually the Food

This may surprise people.

As much as we love talking about nutrition, our favorite part of feeding our cats isn't necessarily what's in the bowl.

It's the ritual.

Every morning and evening follows the same routine. We thaw their food, gently warm it to 'mouse temperature', add the supplements each cat needs, sprinkle on their favorite toppers, and prepare each dish with love.

Our cats know exactly when mealtime is approaching. If we happen to lose track of time, we don't need a clock - we have five very vocal reminders walking around the house. That predictability has become something our entire family looks forward to.

Preparing their meals is almost meditative for me. It's one of the few moments in the day when everything else slows down. I'm completely present, thinking only about nourishing these little souls who trust us with their lives.

Maybe it sounds a little "woo-woo," but I genuinely believe our energy matters.

When we slow down, prepare food with intention, and approach mealtime with gratitude instead of rushing through another task, it changes the experience - for us and our cats.

To me nutrition isn't just about the ingredients. It's also about connection. It's about taking a few extra moments to be fully present with the animals who share our lives.

For us, feeding our cats isn't just another chore. It's one of the most meaningful parts of every single day.
